1921-D 10C MS66 Full Bands PCGS. Just over a milli
1921-D 10C MS66 Full Bands PCGS. Just over a million pieces were struck of the 1921-D dime and it has been a highly sought-after key issue in the Mercury dime series for the past 50+ years. It is conditionally rare also, especially in MS66 condition, with only 15 other pieces having been so graded by PCGS (1/05). This coin exudes thick, frosted mint luster and is brilliant throughout. The central reverse bands are fully defined, but the lettering on each side shows the fadeaway usually encountered on this issue. On the back of Liberty's neck is a peculiar, raised, vertical line of metal. We are not quite sure what this is, and do not remember having seen it on other 1921-D dimes. It is too wide for a die crack or a die scratch. It may just be excess metal that somehow blobbed on the struck coin. In any case, this is an interesting aspect of this highly lustrous, Premium Gem coin. Lot:6361
