1921-D<10C> MS66 Full Bands PCGS. Essentially a match to the 1921 Premium Gem offered here, equally brilliant and lustrous, flashy, and with a few trivial marks that are unworthy of individual elaboration. A bit soft through the lower diagonal, as often found throughout the Mercury dime series. This is because the center of the lower diagonal that binds the fasces is directly opposite Liberty's temple area, the obverse highpoint, so that insufficient striking pressure or improper die spacing will result in coins that are incompletely struck up. With a similar mintage to the 1921, the 1921-D is in reality significantly more rare in Mint State than its P-mint counterpart, and second only to the 1916-D. This date is often found both with die cracks and peripheral weakness, but this example shows neither of those symptoms. An unimprovable specimen for a fine collection. Population: 17 in 66, 0 finer (11/05).
From The Larry Shapiro #1 All-Time Finest Mercury Dimes Full Bands Basic PCGS Registry Set.
