1921 50C Alabama MS67 NGC. The 2x2 has the lower mintage (6,006 pieces vs. 59,038 pieces) of the two 1921 Alabama Half Dollar varieties. The variety without 2x2 in the obverse field, however, is still conditionally challenging with Superb Gems being of the utmost rarity and desirability. The coin that we are offering in this lot is one of only three MS67 representatives at NGC. PCGS has yet to certify a single coin above the MS66 level, nor has NGC done so above the present grade (10/02). Beautifully and originally toned, both sides display rich reddish-russet peripheral toning. Overlapping swirls of emerald-green and pastel-lilac shades overlay the central obverse, while the balance of the reverse is untoned. Rich mint luster is seen throughout, but the only worthwhile pedigree marker is a tiny abrasion in the left obverse field before Bibb's nose. Two of the three MS67 examples reported by NGC have appeared at auction over the past decade: 1. Ex: Commodore Matthew C. Perry Collection Sale (Bowers and Merena, 1/1995), lot 1317, where it realized $18,150. The present example. 2. Ex: Pre-Long Beach Sale (Superior, 10/2000), lot 661, where it realized $12,650.From the St. Louis Collection. Important notice: We expect to be auctioning lots at the rate of 200-250 per hour. Sometimes eBay Premier live bid software cannot keep up with that pace, so we strongly recommend that you place a realistic proxy bid now as insurance to avoid disappointment. Also please note that all Heritage/CAA lots purchased through eBay Premier carry a 20% Buyer's Premium. Please make sure you read the Terms and Conditions.
