1921 50C Alabama 2x2 MS66 NGC. While numismatists know Governor Thomas Kilby as the first living person to appear on a U.S. coin, this hardly does justice to his political and business careers, which included time as a mayor, lieutenant governor, bank president, and minor steel magnate, according to the Alabama Department of Archives & History. Kilby joins his earliest predecessor on the obverse of this stupendous half. Crescents of lime-green, plum, ruby-magenta, orange, and gold grace the left side, while the rest is mainly silver-white. One of just six Alabama 2x2 halves in MS66 awarded the Star designation, and the lone Superb Gem graded by NGC lacks the Star (3/07).
From The Cary & Cheryl Porter Collection.

Shipping: Coins & Currency (view shipping information)
