1921 $1 MS66 PCGS. A medal is not a coin, and between 1921 and 1922, the Mint had to reduce the relief of the Peace dollar design. The original, by medallist Anthony de Francisci, proved impractical for regular coinage, another setback for the relationship between outside artists and the U.S. Mint. This well struck and highly lustrous example, lightly gold-toned with carefully preserved surfaces, illustrates the difficulty the Mint had with the de Francisci design. Despite the piece's above-average detail, the central highpoints remain soft. PCGS has graded a mere six pieces finer (6/07).

Coin Engraver: Anthony de Francisci

Shipping: Coins & Currency (view shipping information\)
