1920s Visible Gas Pump From Visible Pump Company
For your consideration is this 1920s visible gas pump made by the Visible Pump Company in Findlay, Ohio. The Visible Pump Company was founded in the early 20th century and was known for its innovative designs and high-quality products. The use of a transparent glass cylinder in Visible Pump Co. products, allowed consumers to watch the gasoline being pumped into their cars, one of the company's most distinguishing characteristics. This design promoted confidence and transparency between the owner of the gas station and the customer as well as helping to assure precise measurement. As time went on, the business kept coming up with new ideas and improving its goods, and it rose to the top among American manufacturers of gas pumps and dispensers. However, when self-serve gas stations proliferated in the 1960s and 1970s, the market for Visible Pump Co.'s goods started to dwindle, and the firm ultimately went out of business. This visible pump shows only the base component, and is missing the pump and glass container that would sit on top of the metal base. It shows a metal plaque at the top of the metal base reading, "Visible Pump Co. (Inc.) Findlay, Ohio and shows multiple patents and their dates. The visible pump shows fair condition with its metal base showing chipping and wear to the paint with rusting present throughout. The pump measures a diameter of 14 5/8" and a height of 64".
