1920s Kidnapping Episode Archive.
1920s "Kidnapping Episode" Archive. Young Sydney Johnstone of Winona, Minnesota was blessed with a gift for fiction that was ill suited for his poor judgment. In February 1927 the imaginative junior high school student composed a vivid kidnapping threat and actually mailed it to the "victim's" father! This small archive is anchored by Johnstone's three-page letter to Frank Horton spelling out doom for Frances "Pansy" Horton if $2,500 is not forthcoming. The letter, signed "The Underworld Trio. Spike, Ike & Mike" reads like pulp fiction and retains its original mailing envelope. An envelope imprinted for the Principal's Office of Winona's Junior High School accompanies a copy of this letter. Across the envelope's face is scrawled, "Here is your kidnapping episode" in Johnstone's hand. Mr. Horton was not amused by all of this for he retained an official Government imprint regarding penalties for blackmail. Rounding out the lot is a 1928 school essay by a supposedly reformed Johnstone in which the lad gushes over his fascination with electrical devices, especially radio. The whole is reminiscent of a Booth Tarkington Penrod story. Overall very good condition.

Shipping: Flat Material, Small (view shipping information)
