1920s Historical Orig Ku Klux Klan Robe & Headpiece KKK
This original Ku Klux Klan Robe & Headpiece dates from the 1920's. It was owned by a Klansman who was born in 1893 in Tennessee. It was worn during the race riots in Tulsa, Oklahoma which erupted on May 31, 1921. * The material has stains and wear, but is overall in good condition. The rope tassels are a little frayed, but fine. A name is embroidered in red thread on the inside back. The patch is made and hand-colored from felt. * This is a remarkable original set from a dark period in American history. Note: There have been claims that the Klan was directly involved in the riot, but it has not been confirmed that they had an actual organizational presence in the city at that time. Less than three months after the riot, the Klan would make its first major appearance in Oklahoma, on August 12, 1921. There was certainly strong sentiment, and membership in the Klan quickly grew after the riots. *
