This 1930s vintage yellow handpainted flower design biscuit jar is a work of art! Milk glass on the inside and bottom, it has an outer layer of yellow with handpainted garlands of roses and dogwood flowers.

This design, in yellow, orange, green, pink, white, and red, is on both sides of the jar. The lid is crowned with a separate flower design of its own.

The jar is very symmetrical--measuring 7 inches tall, it has a 4 1/2-inch tall bowl which is 4 1/2 inches wide and has a 3 3/4-inch base. The lid itself is designed in graduated levels! The bottom is 5 inches wide, the next layer up is 4 1/4 inches, and the top, comprising the fingerhold, is 2 1/2 inches wide, and is where the jar wears its crowning touch. Overall, the lid is 2 1/2 inches tall. The glass has a satin finish.

This piece is so unique that I can find no maker, and my research has not yielded a precise identification. However, according to the type of glass and decor, this is 1920s-1930s vintage at the latest. It may be well be earlier. It is possibly European in origin.

The jar is in overall excellent condition. However, there is a rough edge on the inside of the top of the jar bowl, which may have resulted during manufacture.

This one is definitely a keepsake!
