1920-S<$20> MS63 PCGS. This coin conforms more closely to what the literature states should be expected of a 1920-S. The mint luster on this piece is brighter and definitely more frosted than that seen on the MS64 or MS66 examples above. This is not a judgment by any means, it is merely an observation of two subtly different finishes seen on this very rare issue. This coin also differs from the other two Morse coins in that it has a brighter yellow-gold coloration with occasional dabs and streaks of deeper orange-gold. The Capitol building is weakly struck, as always, but Liberty's toes (one of the signs of a sharp strike) are well defined. A number of small abrasions are scattered over each side, which account for the grade, but none are worthy of singular mention. Definitely an upper-end MS63 example of this well-known rarity and one of only 12 pieces so graded by PCGS (9/05).
From The Phillip H. Morse Collection of Saint-Gaudens Coinage.
