1920-S $20 MS63 NGC.
1920-S $20 MS63 NGC. In Mint State grades, the 1920-S is more difficult to locate than the prized 1907 Extremely High Relief, 1927-D, 1931-D, and 1930-S issues, and ranks as one of the premier rarities in the Saint-Gaudens double eagle series. Although Walter Breen's estimate (1988) that 8-12 examples survive has probably been rendered irrelevant by the emergence of coins from European banks. NGC and PCGS, combined, report only 21 specimens in MS 63 with 19 finer (11/03). The lightly marked surfaces of this Select example show competing swirls of yellow-gold and rose-gold coloration over powerfully struck features. The mint-made "indentation" on the reverse rim above the eagle's beak is a diagnostic feature of the issue. A deservedly rare double eagle and a lot that should see spirited bidding from 20th century gold specialists. Important notice: Heritage usually auctions material at the rate of 200-250 lots per hour. On some occasions eBay Live bid software or the Internet may not be able to keep up with the pace of the auction. We recommend placing a realistic absentee bid now as insurance to avoid disappointment. Occasionally the auctioneer may eliminate or reject an eBay Live bid, and the auctioneer may also reopen a lot after the close of the eBay live bidding (usually because we missed an audience bid), and may reject your bid even if it shows you as the winning bidder. By bidding via eBay Live, you agree that Heritage may award the lot to another bidder at its sole discretion under the circumstances described above or any other reasonable circumstances. Also please note that all Heritage lots purchased through eBay Live carry a 20% Buyer's Premium. Please make sure you read the Terms and Conditions before you bid.
