1920-S $10 MS64 PCGS. Recognized as one of the four mo 1920-S
<B>1920-S<$10> MS64 PCGS.</B></I> Recognized as one of the four most important rarities in the series of Indian eagles, along with the 1907 Rolled Edge (or Rounded Rim) variety, and the 1930-S and 1933 issues. Of these four elusive issues, this date is probably second behind only the 1933 eagle, although Walter Breen once stated his opinion that the '20-S eagle is actually rarer than the 1933 issue. Also consider the words of David Akers: "This issue has long been correctly recognized as one of the major rarities of 20th century United States gold coins and it is even rare in EF or AU condition. The occasional Mint State piece that comes up for sale is usually a low grade one (MS-60 to 62), and above the most basic Mint State grades, the 1920-S eagle is extremely rare."<BR> This example is highly lustrous with frosty obverse and reverse surfaces. Both sides have gorgeous light yellow color with wispy orange toning. The fields have a few insignificant marks, but the overall appearance and eye appeal is that of a higher grade. In fact, it is only a single tiny rim bruise left of the date that has prevented a higher grade for this near-Gem example. This example is remarkably well struck with full and boldly visible date and LIBERTY, and without the usual weakness on the leading edge of the eagle's top wing. Population: 5 in 64, 4 finer (5/06).
