1920 DWM Luger Carbine with Replacement Stock
This is a solid example of a late production 1920 DWM Luger carbine that is complete with a contemporary walnut stock and original attaching iron. These 1920 Luger carbines were all assembled with early 1902/1906 frames that had the old style rear grip safety and lower position safety lever. The frames were factory altered to add the attaching iron on the front end to make a carbine type pistol for sales after WWI, and this example conforms exactly to that configuration. There are very few examples of these 1920 Lugers as the DWM factory was busy reworking standard WWI lugers during the Weimar period and produced very few of these 1920 carbines. The top of the chamber area is blank and the front toggle has the standard DWM logo. The left side of the barrel extension has the small Crown "N" commercial proof next to the four digit serial number (4177). The only other serial number on the entire pistol is on the underside of the barrel which is "154" which matches the take down cross-pin for the forend and the recoil lug on the underside of the barrel extension. The left side of the frame rail is marked "MADE IN GERMANY", indicating sales outside of Europe or in the U.S. which is absolutely correct for this model. The 11 3/4 inch barrel is fitted with the three position rear sight graduated for 100, 200 and 300 meters with a ramp front sight base with bead front sight. The forend and grip are checkered walnut with a single sling swivel on forearm. The stock is a replacement all walnut version that has more rounded sides than the flat board stock of the WWI period, and is fitted with an unnumbered attaching iron. The buttplate is a replacement steel non-factory variation. This pistol has the all blued metal finish with the straw colors on the various small parts. It is complete with one nickel plated wood base magazine that is numbered 826 on the base.
