1920-D 50C MS66 NGC. This is a delightful Gem exa
1920-D<50C> MS66 NGC. This is a delightful Gem example even though it is not fully struck. In his guide to the series, Bruce Fox commented: "Records show ample dies were available, but low striking pressures and/or inadequate die spacing produced weaker than average strikes. This was typical of the Denver Mint up until the late thirties." The surfaces have wonderful satiny luster with speckled golden-brown toning. Overall, this example has a high degree of eye appeal. It is the single finest example of the date certified by NGC. PCGS has graded just six of them, but that total probably includes a couple resubmissions. This is only the fourth time we have handled an MS66 grade example of this date in 12 years. Population: 1 in 66, 0 finer (6/05).
From The Robert Moreno Collection.
