1920-D 25C MS67 PCGS. The Denver Mint produced 3.5 million Quarters of the Standing Liberty type in 1920--a rather undistinguished total for the series. Nevertheless, and perhaps surprisingly, Mint State survivors are equally as elusive as those of the lower mintage 1919-D, 1919-S, and 1921 deliveries (per Cline). This is one of the most visually impressive examples that this cataloger has seen. The surfaces are richly frosted with a dominant silver-gray sheen and scattered freckles of russet color toward the peripheries. There is not a single bothersome bagmark, and the only area of mentionable striking incompleteness is on the obverse near the upper rim. NGC and PCGS combined have seen just two coins at the MS67 grade level, and no coins finer without Full Head definition (10/02).
