1920-30s Louis Tiffany Furnaces Inc. Trumpet Vase
For your consideration is this 1920-30s Louis C. Tiffany Furnaces Incorporated gilt bronze and favrile glass trumpet vase. Louis Comfort Tiffany founded Tiffany Studios in 1885 as a glass manufacturing business. Mostly used for windows and lamps, the stained glass produced by the studio was multicolored, textured, and opalescent. A type of blown glass known as Favrile was produced at Tiffany Glass Furnaces in Queens, New York, which opened in 1893. All of the Tiffany Studios' creations were built with this glass. To stop other studios from stealing the idea, the business registered the trademark Favrile in 1894. Although it was initially believed that Louis Comfort Tiffany himself had created the designs for the Tiffany lamps, Clara Driscoll was the designer who came up with each of them. The vase shows a beautiful gilt bronze base with organic motifs and a detachable trumpet-shaped glass body. This delicate piece has a lovely light gold color to the glass, and an iridescent coating adds subtle accents of green and blue. The gilt bronze support is inscribed "Louis C. Tiffany Furnaces Inc. 160" and bears the official emblem of Louis Tiffany Furnaces Inc. on the bottom. The glass piece is signed "L.C.T. Favrile" in the narrow end. Both pieces are in excellent condition and have a lovely patina that highlights the way the light catches their beautiful shapes. The vase shows good condition overall with patinas present and some slight wear but no obvious signs of damage are present to the vase. The vase measures a bottom diameter of 5 1/4" and a top diameter of 6 5/16" while the height measures 16 1/16". The vase weighs approximately 3 pounds and 4 ounces.
