1919-S 5C MS65 PCGS. The 1919-S Buffalo nickel has perhaps not attained the notoriety of the 1921-S, 1923-S, or 1924-S in Gem Mint State grades, but it is nonetheless a prized rarity in the popular Buffalo nickel series, quite elusive in such a grade and all but unobtainable any finer. The issue is also infamous for having one of the worst strikes in the entire series, with the single exception of perhaps the 1926-D. The present example has a decent strike while less than full, and the die erosion common to the issue is present here, in the form of orange-peel texture on each side. Two prominent die cracks show on the obverse, one through the date and a second through the portrait. Beautiful light blue-green, original patina graces the obverse, with a silver-gold reverse. Despite the mint-caused die problems, this charming and pristine piece, with no mentionable post-strike impairments, good luster, and excellent eye appeal, is well deserving of the Gem grade. Population: 28 in 65, 2 finer (11/06).

Shipping: Coin/Currency (view shipping information)
