1919-S 50C MS64 PCGS. This early branch mint half doll
1919-S 50C MS64 PCGS. This early branch mint half dollar, with a mintage of 1.55 million pieces, is elusive in all grades and especially in MS64 or higher grades. In fact, PCGS has certified only 55 coins in MS64 (3/07). That is less than the either the 1919-P or D issues, despite the fact that the mintage of the 1919-S is slightly higher. It is likely that almost the entire mintage of 1919-S half dollars found its way into circulation and served in commerce for years to come. To make finding a Choice Uncirculated example even more difficult, examples that did survive in true mint condition are always weakly struck. Breen notes in his Complete Encyclopedia that 1919-S half dollars are weakly struck and, "fully Uncirculated survivors are seldom offered." The design details on this issue that are usually soft are Liberty's head, branch hand, and gown lines. This piece shows strong definition on the head of Liberty with weakness seen on the other design elements. Brilliant throughout and showing no obvious or detracting abrasions. Softly frosted over each side.

Shipping: Coins & Currency (view shipping information)
