1919-S<50C> MS64 PCGS. The 1919-S has the highest mintage of the three 1919 half dollar issues (1,552,000 pieces versus 962,000 and 1,165,000 respectively for the 1919-P and 1919-D). Perhaps because of this, or maybe for other reasons as well, it was saved less. In any event, the '19-S reveals the lowest certified Mint State population of the three dates. PCGS and NGC have graded fewer than 300 Uncirculated examples of the issue, and more than 400 Mint State specimens of the 1919-P, and over 300 of the 1919-D (it should be mentioned, however, that the '19-D has fewer coins graded MS65 and finer.
This near-Gem coin displays lustrous silver-gray surfaces visited by occasional dapples of light tan. The design elements are generally well impressed, though the centers are somewhat soft. Minute contact marks on Liberty's throat, cheek, and lower left leg and left breast limit the grade. Population: 62 in 64, 47 finer (4/06).
