<B>1919-S 1C MS65 Red and Brown NGC.</B></I> Despite the high mintage of this issue (139,760,000 pieces) desirable Mint State coins are in short supply. David Lange (2005) reports that this is because: "Most are from heavily worn dies, while the planchet stock used (as with most S-mint cents from this decade) precluded the survival of many pieces with bright mint red." The Red and Brown Gem in this lot displays attractive copper-gold luster tinted with hints of light tan, and on the upper reverse, a splash of sky-blue. An above average strike occurs on both sides, and includes sharpness in the bow tie and on all of the grains and lines of the wheat stalks. Housed in a former generation NGC holder.
