1919-S 10C MS65 Full Bands NGC. The 1919-S dime is difficult to locate in any Mint State grade, and sharply struck coins with Full Bands make it all the more challenging. Indeed, NGC and PCGS have only graded around 30 Gem quality examples that possess Full Bands. The issue is characterized by overall weakness of strike, especially evident at the peripheries of both obverse and reverse (David Lange, The Complete Guide to Mercury Dimes, 2005).
The MS65 Full Bands example in this lot certainly deviates from the '19-S profile. While a few elements such as the LI in LIBERTY and the W in WE exhibit minor softness, the majority of peripheral features are strongly defined. Additionally, fully lustrous surfaces are nicely preserved and free of color. A handful of unobtrusive ticks are all that stand in the way of a possibly higher grade. Light clash marks are located in front of Mercury's face. Census: 5 in 65 Full Bands, 3 finer (10/07).

Coin Engraver: Adolph A.
