1919-D<5C> MS65 PCGS. The 1919-D is one of the more challenging issues to locate with a sharp strike, often displaying flatness in the hair of the bison's head and indistinctness at the horn's tip, even on Gem pieces. On the present coin, crispness on the design elements is one of the first attributes to greet the viewer. The date and LIBERTY are bold, as is most of the Indian motif. The horn is well delineated, as are the reverse legends and motto. The bison's hair reveals just a touch of softness at the brow. Nicely preserved surfaces radiate bright luster, and are further enlivened with iridescent ice-blue, violet, yellow-gold, and lavender toning. The heavy die break often seen at the top of the Indian's head is absent on this example. Population: 50 in 65, 13 finer (9/06).
