1919-D 5C MS65 PCGS. Buffalo Nickel experts (among which are Larry Whitlow and Norm Talbert) debate.
1919-D 5C MS65 PCGS. Buffalo Nickel experts (among which are Larry Whitlow and Norm Talbert) debate the relative rarity ranking of the 1919-D. Some believe that the 1919-D and 1920-D are the two rarest D-mint issues in this series at the MS65 level while others assert that the 1927-D is more of a strike and condition rarity than the '19-D. We stress, however, that this debate is purely academic; there should be no question that the '19-D is a rare coin as a Gem. In addition to smooth surfaces that are also free of bothersome carbon, the present example possesses bold-to-sharp striking detail in all areas. A generous endowment of orange-gray patina overlays both sides and confirms the originality of this important condition rarity. One of just 8 million Buffalo Nickels produced in the Denver Mint in 1919.From The BTB Collection of Buffalo Nickels.
