1919-D 50C MS64 ICG. The essence of condition rarity in a Walking Liberty Half Dollar, the 1919-D is difficult to locate even at the XF and AU levels. Mint State survivors are few and far between in today's market, and most are not well struck. The reverse of this ICG-certified near-Gem is above average in definition with relatively little softness of detail in the center. The obverse is more typical of the date with incompleteness of strike noted over Liberty's head and right (facing) hand. The lack of distracting abrasions is perhaps this coin's most important feature, and both sides are free of singularly mentionable bagmarks. The otherwise medium gray appearance yields to mottled orange-tan shadings in select areas around the peripheries. The 1919-D is all but unobtainable as a fully struck Gem, and carefully preserved near-Gems such as the present example are always in demand among specialists. We last offered a similarly graded '19-D Walker as lot 6302 in our June 2002 Long Beach Signature Sale. That coin, which was certified by PCGS and part of the Marvin Elkin Collection (the Jon/Lor Registry Set), traded hands for $13,800 including the 15% buyer's premium. Important notice: We expect to be auctioning lots at the rate of 200-250 per hour. Sometimes eBay Premier live bid software cannot keep up with that pace, so we strongly recommend that you place a realistic proxy bid now as insurance to avoid disappointment. Also please note that all Heritage/CAA lots purchased through eBay Premier carry a 20% Buyer's Premium. Please make sure you read the Terms and Conditions.
