1919-D 50C MS63 PCGS. Of all the changes certified grading has wrought in numismatics, one of the most important is how it redefined condition rarity for numerous issues. Though the 1919-D was known as a better date prior to third party population reports, certified data crowned the issue as the most challenging D-mint Walker in Mint State grades. Paul M. Green, in a November 8, 2005 article in Numismatic News, declared that "the 1919-D was simply not saved, and there is little reason to doubt that."
The importance of the Select example offered here is equally indisputable. While the central devices show this issue's typical softness, the shining and essentially untoned fields greatly enhance the coin's visual appeal. The surfaces show few marks overall, though a few wispy abrasions are noted near the margins. Overall, an excellent candidate for the ambitious date collector.

Coin Engraver: Adolph A.
