War of Independence Service Medal with Comrac bar, Emergency Service Medal Na Forsaí Cosanta both unnamed as issued with collection of Irish Army sports medals awarded to Booth consisting of three rare 9 carat gold hallmarked medals for all Army championship 1927 throwing discus, all Army championship 1928 throwing javelin and Curragh district athletic championship 1927 throwing discus. Ten hallmarked silver Army sports medals dating from 1926 to 1930 for tug of war, discus throwing, javelin and shot put. Also a hallmarked silver ashtray presented to Booth on his retirement in 1947 by A Company 20th Infantry Battalion.
William Booth was born in 1893 the son of Patrick and Anne Booth of Ardmulchan County Meath. He joined the Irish Volunteers shortly after their foundation and later served with the IRA during the War of Independence becoming Vice-Brigadier of the First Eastern Division. He joined the National Army during the Civil War and took over Navan Barracks from the British Army in 1922. His service with the army lasted for over 24 years until his retirement in 1947. Booth lived at Vernon Avenue Clontarf until his death in August 1963. He was buried with full military honours at Sutton Cemetery, Co. Dublin. (16 items)
