1919-20 Branch Rickey Signed Contract
1919-20 Branch Rickey Signed Contract & Handwritten Signed Letter. Arguably baseball's greatest visionary, Rickey's invention of the modern farm system and, most notably, his brave quest to break our national pastime's color barrier have earned him a well-deserved Cooperstown plaque. Here we present two fine signatures from his hand for the cultured Hall of Fame autograph collector. First is a handwritten letter dated "Jan. 12, 1919" on St. Louis Cardinals letterhead, agreeing to a possible performance bonus for pitcher Vernon "Tubby" Clemons. Original mailing folds and minor edge wear are present, but no noteworthy flaws. Joining the letter is Clemons' 1920 National League Player's Contract, which is likewise filled out and signed entirely in Rickey's 10/10 black fountain pen ink. Clemons has signed signaling his agreement to the terms as well, and National League president John Heydler's autograph appears on the contract's cover (9/10). Some mild fold separation and staining, but writing and autographs are unaffected. Keep one piece and sell the other, or maintain them as a fantastic matched pair. LOA from PSA/DNA.
