1919 1C MS67 Red PCGS. Flashy luster, and golden-
1919<1C> MS67 Red PCGS. Flashy luster, and golden-orange color, framed by yellowish-green toning at the margins. Well struck, as are most examples of this issue, with sharp detail apparent on Lincoln's hair and beard. The surfaces are well preserved, showing no serious spotting. A few tiny, unobtrusive reverse marks are mentioned for accuracy. The shortage of cents which developed in the Fall of 1917 went on unabated. As a consequence, this issue set a record for the largest mintage of a single denomination at a single mint up to that time. The unusually large demand for cents was due to certain internal revenue taxes put into effect on April 1, 1919. It was reported that since the new luxury tax went into effect, there was an extraordinary demand for cents for the purpose of making change. Population: 49 in 67, 15 finer (4/05).
