1918-S 5C MS65 PCGS.
1918-S 5C MS65 PCGS. The 1918-D and S are both scarce mintmarked issues. The 1918-D is a scarcer issue in XF-AU grades, but the 1918-S is the more challenging of the two in Mint State. The '18-S is also a well known strike rarity. This piece has the strongest strike we have seen in recent memory. While the obverse details are well defined, it is the reverse that is particularly noteworthy. The striking definition on the bison's head is noticeably sharper than the MS65 we offered in our 2003 February Long Beach Sale (and that was an especially well struck piece) or either of the two Gems in our Central States Sale this past year. The mint luster is thick and satiny and each side displays lovely rose and lilac patination with no abrasions or carbon spots evident without magnification. A seldom-offered opportunity for the collector of Gem Buffalo nickels who is particularly strike-conscious. Population: 22 in 65, 1 finer (10/03). Important notice: Heritage usually auctions material at the rate of 200-250 lots per hour. On some occasions eBay Live bid software or the Internet may not be able to keep up with the pace of the auction. We recommend placing a realistic absentee bid now as insurance to avoid disappointment. Occasionally the auctioneer may eliminate or reject an eBay Live bid, and the auctioneer may also reopen a lot after the close of the eBay live bidding (usually because we missed an audience bid), and may reject your bid even if it shows you as the winning bidder. By bidding via eBay Live, you agree that Heritage may award the lot to another bidder at its sole discretion under the circumstances described above or any other reasonable circumstances. Also please note that all Heritage lots purchased through eBay Live carry a 20% Buyer's Premium. Please make sure you read the Terms and Conditions before you bid.
