1918-S 5C MS65 PCGS. A moderately rare issue, the 1918-S ranks 14th out of the 64 dates and mintmarks in the series. In addition to absolute rarity, this issue is notable as a strike rarity as well. This coin is especially well defined on the reverse with above average definition on the obverse. This sharp detailing on the reverse is unusual and the reason is explained in the third edition of the Lange reference: "The Buffalo Nickel was a coin of relatively high relief, and it did take quite a toll on the dies. These wore rapidly, and such erosion is often evident on the actual coins. The reverse dies in particular were used too long, as they didn't need to be discarded at the end of each calendar year." Bright and lustrous, just a hint of light color is seen on each side of this important early Buffalo nickel.

Shipping: Coins & Currency (view shipping information)
