1918-S 5C MS64 PCGS. Both sides of this near-Gem display rich gold peripheral toning that fades to blushes of gray-blue over the centers. The underlying surfaces offer lovely quicksilver luster, though the strike shows the usual softness at the centers. Despite its shortcomings, knowledgeable collectors will instantly appreciate the rarity and desirability of this early S-mint Buffalo. PCGS has graded 31 finer examples (12/07).

Coin Engraver: James E.
