1918-S 50C MS65 PCGS. Mint State specimens of the 1918-S half dollar, with a mintage of 10.282 million pieces, are scarce. Moreover, the issue comes weakly struck, as alluded to by Bruce Fox in his Walking Liberty half dollar reference: "Liberty's hand, leg and the branches she holds tend to blend together as one entity."
The Gem in this lot displays an above average strike. The area Fox refers to above, while not quite fully struck on this example, does exhibit sharp delineation. Both faces exude potent luster, and are lightly toned in pastels of sky-blue and gold-tan. A few unobtrusive obverse marks are totally consistent with the grade. Housed in a green-label holder. Population: 28 in 65, 2 finer (7/07).

Coin Engraver: Adolph A.
