Including a small card used by the successful Staines campaign to solicit votes. A similar card used by his opponent John Dillon Nugent seeking votes. Three different anti-British flyers used by Staines all printed by Cahill Printers, Dublin. (5 items) Michael Staines (1885-1955) was born in Newport Co. Mayo where his father served as an RIC officer. He was a member of the IRB & served as Quartermaster general in the GPO during the 1916 Easter Rising. He was later interned in Frongoch Internment camp. In 1922 he was appointed first commissioner of An Garda Siochana.
