1918-D<5C> MS66 PCGS. The Denver mint produced 8.3 million Buffalo Nickels in 1918, a respectable total for the early part of this series. Nevertheless, this date should only be considered common in grades below the VF level. While Mint State coins are occasionally available, most are limited in grade by the excessive incompleteness of strike that plagues this issue. The present Gem, on the other hand, is boldly, if not sharply detailed in all areas. The luster quality is also exceptional for an '18-D Nickel, with a hard, satiny sheen readily in evidence. There are no unsightly carbon spots or abrasions, and the frosty surfaces feature blushes of orange-apricot and steel-blue color on each side.
