1918-D<5C> MS66 PCGS. A phenomenally well struck example of an issue that is normally strike-deficient. In fact, the strike on this coin is every bit the equal of the 1918-D pictured in the second edition of David Lange's The Complete Guide to Buffalo Nickels that he calls "exceptional." The buffalo's head and shoulder show full detailing all the way up to the top of the buffalo, and the fur proceeding down the shoulder to the highpoint of the leg is delectably complete. Both sides have a light gold patina. The luster, which is passable and only slightly subdued, is more than compensated for by the incredible strike and pristine surfaces. A couple of light obverse die cracks are well hidden in the Indian's lower hair: a tiny one just above the braid, a second running southwest from the Indian's temple. Certified in a green label holder. Population: 19 in 66, 1 finer (4/06).
