1918-D 5C MS66 NGC. The Denver Mint produced 8.3 million Buffalo Nickels in 1918, a respectable total for the early part of this series. Nevertheless, this date should only be considered common in grades below the VF level. While Mint State coins are occasionally available, most are limited in grade by the excessive incompleteness of strike that plagues this issue. The present Gem, on the other hand, is boldly, if not sharply detailed in all areas. The luster quality is also exceptional for an '18-D Nickel, with a hard, satiny sheen readily in evidence. There are no unsightly carbon spots or abrasions, and the otherwise golden-gray features exhibit blushes of apricot color here and there. We note a die crack (as struck) on the reverse over the bison's head. Population: 3 in 66, with none finer (7/02). Important notice: We expect to be auctioning lots at the rate of 200-250 per hour. Sometimes eBay Premier live bid software cannot keep up with that pace, so we strongly recommend that you place a realistic proxy bid now as insurance to avoid disappointment. Also please note that all Heritage/CAA lots purchased through eBay Premier carry a 20% Buyer's Premium. Please make sure you read the Terms and Conditions.
