1918-D 10C MS65 Full Bands PCGS. Ex: Dan Miller.
1918-D<10C> MS65 Full Bands PCGS. Ex: Dan Miller. Light golden-brown color adorns this lustrous near-Gem. The reverse is essentially immaculate, the obverse is nearly as clean since only the faintest contact is apparent when the piece is rotated beneath a light and a loupe. Most Uncirculated 1918-D Mercury Dimes do not possess Full Bands, however, careful inspection does not find any 'bridges' between the bands on this beautiful example. The tops of a few letters near the borders are not completely brought up by the dies, inevitable due to the basined nature of the dies. Short but bold radial die cracks (as made) pass through the E and Y in LIBERTY. A notable conditional rarity, the 1918-D is actually scarcer as a Gem with Full Bands (according to both NGC and PCGS) than the famous 1916-D rarity. Population: 14 in 65, 2 finer (6/05).
