1918 Boston Red Sox Team Signed Baseball with Ba
1918 Boston Red Sox Team Signed Baseball with Babe Ruth. For years it was the sing-song chant that welcomed any Boston supporter brave or foolish enough to wear a Red Sox cap to Yankee Stadium. "Nine-teen Eight-teen! Nine-teen Eight-teen!" With the heroics of the 2004 post-season, the Sox effectively reclaimed for themselves that last World Championship club before eighty-six Curse-induced seasons of heartbreak and failure. 1918 was no longer a taunt, a reminder of decades of despair. It was once again the badge of honor it always should have been.

Heritage is tremendously pleased to bring to the collecting public one of only two known team signed baseballs deriving from this memorable ballclub. While we have not seen this purported other example, we must assume that we present here the superior specimen. The twenty-five signatures and names that adorn the moderately toned hide of the OAL (Johnson) ball feature everyone from their young superstar pitcher Babe Ruth (2/10) to fellow players Everett Scott, Amos Strunk and George Whiteman, to Hall of Fame manager and executive Ed Barrow to the bat and clubhouse boys. Quite clearly this comprehensive keepsake was crafted to memorialize their recent Series victory, as bold notations announce "1918 World's Champions Boston Red Sox" as well as the results of all six World Series games. These notations project with a 9/10 boldness, while the autographs run the gamut from 1/10 to 8/10, with an average of 4/10.

Certainly this veteran of the famed Barry Halper collection will be remembered as one of the most significant autographed baseballs to be sold in 2007, and it will place its new owner in the most elite of collecting circles. Place it on your desk beside a 2004 Red Sox signed baseball to remind you that patience is a virtue, and always, eventually, the sun will rise again. LOA from PSA/DNA. LOA from James Spence Authentication.
