1918/7-S 25C MS63 Full Head NGC. Even though victory was imminent in the trenches of northern France in World War One, the nation's attention was focused on international affairs and not domestic ones. As a result, the mint was more interested in cranking out large numbers of coins and was not especially concerned about quality. As a economy measure, an old 1917-dated die was saved from destruction, re-engraved with an 8 over the final digit in the date, and shipped west with an S-mintmark. From this obverse die, the San Francisco Mint pressed an unknown number of quarters. Although relatively bold to the unaided eye, this overdate variety remained undiscovered until 1937, after which collectors hoarded all the examples that they could locate. This is one of the very few Uncirculated coins that are known with full head detail on the figure of Liberty. Bright mint luster radiates from each side and the obverse is lightly toned with an even layer of golden patina that deepens over the head of Liberty. The reverse is almost untoned in the center with golden peripheral coloration. Population: 1 in 63, 4 finer (11/03). Important notice: Heritage usually auctions material at the rate of 200-250 lots per hour. On some occasions eBay Live bid software or the Internet may not be able to keep up with the pace of the auction. We recommend placing a realistic absentee bid now as insurance to avoid disappointment. Occasionally the auctioneer may eliminate or reject an eBay Live bid, and the auctioneer may also reopen a lot after the close of the eBay live bidding (usually because we missed an audience bid), and may reject your bid even if it shows you as the winning bidder. By bidding via eBay Live, you agree that Heritage may award the lot to another bidder at its sole discretion under the circumstances described above or any other reasonable circumstances. Also please note that all Heritage lots purchased through eBay Live carry a 20% Buyer's Premium. Please make sure you read the Terms and Conditions before you bid.
