1918/7-S 25C AU58 NGC
1918/7-S 25C AU58 NGC. The 1918/7-S quarter is one of the most sought-after overdates in the American coinage series, and after the key-date 1916 issue, is the most expensive coin in the Standing Liberty quarter series in circulated condition. Since comparatively few are thought to have been struck, and the exposed date was especially vulnerable to wear, nice examples of this coin are difficult to acquire.
The high-end AU piece being offered in this lot displays considerable luster, as well as occasional splashes of electric-blue, purple, and olive-tan patination, that are slightly more extensive and deeper in hue on the obverse. Strong definition is noted on the design features, including virtually all of the vertical stripes on the inner shield, and about half of the horizontal ones. Two-thirds or so of the head detail is clear, as well as most of the chain mail. The overdate feature is particularly sharp. Both sides are quite clean. Census: 32 in 58, 44 finer (7/07).

Coin Engraver: Hermon A.
