1918/7-S 25C AU58 NGC. An interesting error whose exact source remains the subject of debate in some quarters. While most numismatic authorities, including Breen, Fivaz, and Stanton concur that the overdate was the product of dual hubbing from 1917- and 1918-dated hubs, Standing Liberty quarter pundit J.H. Cline maintains that the die was reworked when a new year rolled around: "When a die was left over from previous years, rather than throw it away, it was reworked with the next year's date. This is not a dual hubbing, as this would result in doubled obverse or reverse, or both. Another modification that was practiced liberally during the Turban Half series (1808-1836) was modifying the dies from years past to be used for the striking of a later year."
This near-Mint State piece shows lightly toned silver-gold surfaces with essentially all of the luster remaining, and just a touch of highpoint wear, as expected, separates this piece from Mint State.

Coin Engraver: Hermon A.
