1918/7-S 25C AU53 NGC. Light lilac and gold hues grace each side, more prominently on the obverse. Perusal with a loupe reveals only light highpoint wear on Liberty's breast, face, and torso, yet most of the olive sprigs are still visible, along with most of the shield rivets. The all-important diagonal stroke of the 7 underdigit is bold beneath the loops of the 8. The flurry of increased coinage activity towards the end of World War I was responsible for numerous famous and popular coin varieties during 1917 and 1918, including the 1917 Doubled Die Lincoln cents, the 1918/7-D Buffalo nickels, and this, the only Guide Book variety in the Standing Liberty series. This is not truly an "error" coin, as a 1917 die was intentionally overdated with an 8 at the start of 1918. This example shows one of the classic diagnostic that many, but not all, examples show: A small die crack connects the left crossbar of the T in LIBERTY with the upright of that letter. A rare and delectable coin.

Shipping: Coin/Currency (view shipping information)
