1918/7-D 5C MS63 PCGS. It is the sign of an important sale when the auctioneer has the opportunity to offer multiple Mint State representatives of the 1918/7-D. In fact, we have sold the present example on one other occasion: as lot 6763 in our 1999 Chicago ANA Signature Sale, where it realized $36,800. The description in that catalog read: "An exciting example of this very scarce and highly sought-out overdate in the Buffalo Nickel series. Scarce in all grades, the overdate is very rare in all conditions of Mint State. Only two Gems have been certified, placing this piece in the middle of the Condition Census with several others. The surfaces have a subdued, satin-like texture. The fields display a bright rose-golden patina and the gray-lilac patina on the devices provides a strong contrast. Softly struck on the highpoints, the most noticeable areas are on the hair curls on the obverse and the matted hair on the bison's head. Of the greatest rarity and importance to collectors of this popular series." Important notice: We expect to be auctioning lots at the rate of 200-250 per hour. Sometimes eBay Premier live bid software cannot keep up with that pace, so we strongly recommend that you place a realistic proxy bid now as insurance to avoid disappointment. Also please note that all Heritage/CAA lots purchased through eBay Premier carry a 20% Buyer's Premium. Please make sure you read the Terms and Conditions.
