1918/7-D 5C MS62 PCGS.<p>By the time this overdate was discovered in 1931, most examples had acquired some degree of wear from circulation. We agree with David Lange (The Complete Guide to Buffalo Nickels, 2000) that only about two dozen coins are extant in Mint State. Among this group is the present BU quality representative. A later die state, the diagnostic obverse die crack (as produced) above the Indian's braid has extended almost all the way to the mouth, and there is considerable metal flow in the fields (also an as struck feature). The mostly dove-gray surfaces reveal flashes of silver-gray brilliance at certain angles, but there really are no mentionable abrasions. Rather, softness of strike and a few scattered carbon flecks seem to bar this coin from a higher grade. Rare. Important notice: We expect to be auctioning lots at the rate of 200-250 per hour. Sometimes eBay Premier live bid software cannot keep up with that pace, so we strongly recommend that you place a realistic proxy bid now as insurance to avoid disappointment. Also please note that all Heritage/CAA lots purchased through eBay Premier carry a 20% Buyer's Premium. Please make sure you read the Terms and Conditions.
