1918/7-D<5C> AU58 NGC. FS-016.5. A very attractive example of this elusive overdate. Luster exudes from the surface and the coin is toned with pinkish-gold highlights on the obverse and reverse. The overdate feature is sharp, and the 7 can clearly be seen tucked in behind the 8. Fairly well struck, although the two little pointy bits on the horn and tail are flat, perhaps early victims of brief circulation or perhaps were simply not fully struck up by the dies. Examination will note the diagnostic die crack which resides above the top of the braid knot to the right in a horizontal direction toward the Chief's mouth. A loupe will note a few trivial hairlines from circulation, and the tops of LIBE of LIBERTY show flattening. One of the classic rarities to the entire Buffalo nickel series, and a worthy specimen to represent this popular overdate variety. Population: 22 in 58, 37 finer (8/05).
