1918 5C MS67 PCGS. This astonishingly beautiful piece has considerably bolder detail than the average 1918 Buffalo nickel. The luster is vibrant with a hint of frostiness. Thin aquamarine and golden-orange patina graces each side, particularly the fields, which are exquisitely preserved with hardly any marks visible to the unaided eye. Heritage has not offered an example so fine in more than a decade, a testament to this issue's rarity as a Superb Gem. PCGS has graded seven such pieces, with none finer (2/07).
In spite of its generous mintage of over 32 million pieces, the 1918 remains difficult to acquire, particularly with any sort of positive eye appeal. While many theories have been put forth on this topic, David Lange (2006) speculates that inexperienced Mint personnel, needed to replace those workers who were drafted or joined the military, were less adept as coiners; similar workmanship issues in other war years lends credence to this idea.

Shipping: Coins & Currency (view shipping information)
