1918 1C MS67 Red PCGS. This year marked the first
1918<1C> MS67 Red PCGS. This year marked the first when the designer's initials were again presented on the Cent (after the uproar in 1909), this time very inconspicuously at the base of Lincoln's bust. With 288 million pieces produced, one has to wonder why no more than a mere handful of coins have survived in finer conditions. Apparently, this may have been due to an accelerated demand for fractional coinage due to war activities, which increased business requiring a one cent coin throughout our entire commerce system.
The surfaces have a warm golden-orange glow with some subtle peach color also present on each side. There are no obvious abrasions and the coin displays the fine, soft granular texture so often seen. Population: 8 in 67, 1 finer (3/05).
From The Tom Mershon #2 All-Time PCGS Registry Set of Lincoln Wheat Cents.
