A $1 Federal Reserve Bank Note issued by the Federal Reserve Bank of New York, belonging to the 1918 series. This banknote is popularly known as the "Flying Eagle" note due to the vignette on the reverse side. The front of the note features a portrait of George Washington on the left. The central design includes the name of the issuing bank - The Federal Reserve Bank of New York - along with the obligation text, "Will Pay to the Bearer on Demand One Dollar." The reverse of the note features the iconic depiction of an eagle in flight clutching an American flag, a design by artist Louis S. Schaufelberger. The words "ONE DOLLAR," "NATIONAL CURRENCY," and "FEDERAL RESERVE BANK NOTE" are prominently displayed above the eagle. The note carries the denomination "1" in all four corners, both front and back. This example is from Series of 1918, with the date May 18, 1914 printed at the bottom center of the obverse. It is printed with the serial number B12810619A, and has the bank district designation B-2, indicating the New York Federal Reserve Bank. This note is printed in black ink on paper with blue Treasury seal and blue serial numbers.
