<B>1917 G$1 McKinley MS67 NGC.</B></I> This Superb Gem specimen of the elusive 1917 McKinley gold dollar is tied for the finest certified by either NGC or PCGS (7/07). Both sides of this piece have shimmering, frosty luster with a touch of satin that brings out the sharp design details. The obverse is bright yellow-gold, while the reverse has a blend of deeper yellow and honey-gold.<BR> Despite a mintage of just 10,000 pieces, the 1917 issue failed to sell out, just as the 1916 McKinley dollar had unsold remainders. While B. Max Mehl, numismatic huckster extraordinaire, purchased a sizable number of the pieces, an unknown quantity were melted at the Mint.
