1917, $2 United States Note. Fr-60. KL-120 RAW
This is the $2 series of 1917 in which Thomas Jefferson, third president of the United States, gets star billing on the front. The Legal Tender series (a.k.a. United States Notes) were the successors to the first "greenbacks" of 1862-63 issued during the Civil War. Always with a red seal, they are still around but you don't see them in circulation. The government is required to keep over $300 million dollars' worth monetized pursuant to an old forgotten Monetary Act of way back when. These are mainly 1966 series $100 Red Seal United States Notes. Most are locked away in Federal Reserve Banks gathering dust.
